Members of Track & Field Team On MIAA Academic Honor Roll

27 members of the Fort Hays State men's and women's track
and field team have been named to the MIAA Commissioners Academic Honor
Roll. Men honored include Rocky Baalmann, Justin
Bauer, Aaron Davidson, Andrew Fannon, Trayer
Gassman, Matt Goetz, Kyle Jilka, Aaron
Pablo, Nick Panek, A.J. Preisner, Kyle
Reed, Ryan Small, Andrew Smith, Aaron
Yoder and Dan Yoder. Members of the women's team
are Christa Bargman, Ashley Dopita, Brooke
Hobbs, Mallory Joseph, Katie Kersenbrock,
Kylene Kirmer, Jessica Kuhn, Megan McClain,

having a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Track Garners 3 All-Americans
The Fort Hays State track and field team garnered three
All-American finishes at the NCAA II Championships. Senior Brady
Maska capped his career with a fifth All-American honor
finishing third in the discus (177’1”). Kyle Jilka
finished fourth in the javelin (214’0”) and Adam Capps
was sixth in the javelin (209’1”). Junior Bryan Haynes
failed to make the finals in both the 100 and 200 meters.

Misses 100 Meter Finals at NCAA II Track (5/23/08)
Bryan Haynes failed to make the finals in the 100 meters at
the NCAA II Track and Field Championships in Walnut,
California. Haynes ran a time of 10.65 which was the 16th
fastest in the prelims. Haynes will run in the 200
prelims tonight. Heavy rains delayed the meet for several
hours and prevented Brady Maska from competing in the hammer
throw he will do that later today.

Named USTFCCCA Region Field Athlete of the Year (5/21/08)
Fort Hays State’s Brady Maska has been named the
United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year.
The senior from Hays has the nation’s top NCAA II mark in
the discus (184’9”) and is ranked third in the hammer
throw (199’1”). Maska will compete in both events at the
NCAA II Outdoor Championships in Pomona, Calif. He placed
second in the shot put last year.

Tigers To Track and Field Championships (5/13/08)
Six members of the Fort Hays State track and field team have
qualified for the NCAA II National Championships in Pomona,
Calif. Five men and one woman will
represent the Tigers. The men’s qualifiers include
senior Brady Maska in the discus and hammer throw,
junior Bryan Haynes in the 100 and 200 meters,
sophomore Garrett Edgar in the javelin, senior Kyle
Jilka in the javelin and freshman Adam Capps also
in the javelin. Junior Lindsay McCormick is the
womenb’s lone qualifier and will compete in the javelin.
Maska currently owns the best mark in the discus. Maska
currently has the best discus mark in the nation and
third-best hammer throw mark. Haynes currently owns the
second-fastest time in the 200 meters and third-fastest time
in the 100 meters. Edgar is ranks tenth in the nation in the
javelin.

Men's Track and Field Finish 4th at MIAA
The Fort Hays State Tiger men’s track team was edged out by
a half-a-point for third place by Emporia State and finish
fourth at the MIAA Track and Field Championships in Maryville
over the weekend. Central Missouri won their third straight
men’s team title. Missouri Southern captured the women’s
crown with Fort Hays finishing seventh. Fort Hays State junior
Bryan Haynes was the meet's high-scorer, winning the
200-meter dash (20.69) and taking second in the 100-meter
dash. He also competed in two relays. Haynes is the second
Tiger to capture the individual points crown. Senior teammate Brady
Maska won that title a year ago. This weekend he won the
discus and third in the hammer. Fort Hays State swept the top
four places of the javelin led by sophomore Garett Edgar
who won it (191-3). Leading the way for the Tiger women was
Lindsey McCormick who finished second in the javelin and
Ashley Orr who was runner-up in the 10,000 meters.

Krob Elected To Coaching Hall of Fame (4/18/08)
Former
Fort Hays State Cross Country and Track and Field coach Jim
Krob has been elected into the National High School
Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Krob began his
coaching career at Burdett High School before taking over at
Jewell where his teams won two state titles. His final high
school job was at Russell before he moved to the college ranks
at Bethany and then Fort Hays State. He will be inducted at a
luncheon in Colorado Springs on June 24th.

Track and Field 4th at DII Challenge (4/14/08)
Both the Fort Hays State men’s and women’s golf teams
finished fourth at the Papa John’s Division II Challenge in
Emporia Sunday. The Tigers men recorded three first place
finishes. Brady Maska won both the shot put and discus
while Bryan Haynes took the 200 meters. Sharley
Schreiner won the 10,000 meters for the only first place
finish for the ladies.

Has Two All-Americans (3/16/08)
Both
of Fort Hays State’s entries into the NCAA II Indoor track
and field championships are All-Americans. Bryan Haynes
won the national title in the 200 meters with a time of 21.78.
Haynes had the sixth best time in qualifying for the finals. Brady
Maska finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 56 3
¾”.

Qualify Two For Nationals (3/4/08)
The Fort Hays State indoor track and field team qualifies
two for the NCAA II Championships in Boston. Bryan Haynes
will be running in both the 60 and 200 meters. Haynes, who is
a wide receiver on the Tiger football team, had the sixth best
200 time of those qualified. Brady Maska is going in
the shot put. Maska has the seventh best put in the country.

Men 5th and Women 8th At MIAA Indoor Championships (3/1/08)
The Fort Hays State men’s indoor track and field team
finished fifth and the women eighth at the MIAA Indoor
Championships in Joplin Saturday. Most of the men’s points
came from Bryan Haynes and Jay Lindal who was
the only individual champ, winning the 3000 meters and
finishing third in the mile. Haynes turned in two second place
finishes in the 60 and 200 meters. Brady Maska was
second in the shot put. Nobody for the women finished higher
than fifth place in any event. The team will now wait to see
how many qualify for the national championships in Boston.

Track and Field Produces Four All-Americans (5/29/07)
Fort Hays State produced four All-Americans at the NCAA II
Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Charlotte,
North Carolina. Brady Maska in the men’s shot put and
discus, Lindsay McCormack and Jayci Peters in
the women’s javelin and Amanda Poore in the women’s
high jump. Maska finished runner-up in the discus and eighth
in the shot put. McCormack was runner-up and Peters eight in
the javelin while Poore finished third in the high jump.
It’s the second straight year she’s been All-American in
that event in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Track And Field Qualifies
Ten For National Meet
The Fort Hays State track and field team will have their
largest contingency at the national meet since 2000,
qualifying ten for next week’s meet in Charlotte, N.C. Five
men and five will compete in 12 events. Brady Maska
will compete in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. He’s
joined on the men’s side by Dan Yoder in the 800, Kyle
Reed in the discus and Garrett Edgar and Kyle
Jilka in the javelin. Edgar has the second best mark this
year. For the women, Amanda Poore will be in the high
jump, Casey Wanger the pole vault, Crystal Harden
the triple jump and Lindsey McCormick and Jayci
Peters in the javelin.
Indoor Track Has Two MIAA Champs
The Fort Hays State Tigers had two conference champs at the
MIAA Indoor Championships in Warrensburg, Missouri Saturday. Brady
Maska won the shot (55'5") and Amanda Poore
set a new school record and tied the MIAA indoor record in the
high jump. Her mark of 5’8 3/4” is an automatic qualifying
mark for the national meet. Among some of the other highlights
for the Tigers, David Quillin placed second in the 400
meters and hit qualifying standard for the National Indoor
Championships. Senior Casey Wanger assured her spot at
the National Indoor Championships by jumpinig 12' 2" and
placing 2nd in the pole vault. Maurice Henson hit a
national qualifying mark with his 2nd place finish in the
triple jump of 46'10 3/4" He was also all conference in
the long jump. Other All-MIAA performances came from Aaron
Pablo (200 meters), Dan Yoder (1-Mile), Aaron
Davidson (5,000 meters), Crystal Harden (Triple
Jump). The Tiger men finished sixth and the women seventh.
