FHSU’s Anastos Heads All-Region Team (5/8/08)
Fort Hays State sophomore catcher Jessika Anastos has been named to the first team of the Daktronics NCAA II SID’s All-North Central Regional team. She was one of only three players from the MIAA to receive first team recognition along with Emporia State pitcher Samantha Sheeley and Hornet third baseman Miranda Campbell. Anastos hit .462, the best single season average in Fort Hays State history, and set a single-season record with 13 home runs. She is now eligible for the All-America team.

FHSU Softball Goes 2-2 at MIAA Tournament (5/3/08)
The Fort Hays State softball team goes 2-2 at the MIAA Tournament in Shawnee, Kan. The Tigers dropped their opener 11-0 in five innings to Emporia State. They came back in an elimination game to defeat Pittsburg State 6-0. Kayla Rupa retired the final 17 batters she faced to pick up the win. The Tigers then knocked out Missouri Western 3-2 in a game that was suspended Thursday night due to rain. FHSU rallied with a run in the sixth on an inside-the-park home run from Hallie McMillan. Then scored the game winner when McMillan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Tigers were then eliminated by Central Missouri 3-1. FHSU wraps up the season 32-26.

FHSU Softball Drops Two To Pitt State (4/23/08)
Despite losing twice at home to Pittsburg State yesterday, the Fort Hays State softball team is headed to the MIAA Tournament. The Tigers lose 7-3 and 5-3 yesterday but advance thanks to Missouri Southern’s sweep of Southwest Baptist. The Tiger fell behind 5-0 in both games. They rallied for three in the sixth in game two but that would all they could muster. Freshman catcher Candice Kauffman had a pair of hits in each game. Alex Eaton drove in two in the first contest. The Tigers are now 30-24 and 7-11 in the MIAA and right now are sitting eighth in the conference. They won’t know who or when they play in next week’s tournament until Sunday.

FHSU Softball Splits With #22 Emporia State (4/22/08)
The Fort Hays State softball team split their doubleheader with 22nd-ranked Emporia State yesterday losing 8-0 in the first game then rallying for two in the bottom of the 6th to take game two 2-1. Emily Herl led off the inning with a triple and scored the tying run on Hallie McMillan’s bases-loaded single. Jessika Anastos scored the game winning run on a bases-loaded wild pitch. Jessica Hamilton picks up the complete game victory despite giving up a seven walks in the game. The Tigers move to 30-22 and 7-9 in the MIAA where they are tied with Missouri Western for seventh. The Tigers try to secure a spot in the conference tournament this afternoon when they host Pittsburg State in a one o’clock doubleheader.

FHSU Softball Sweeps Newman (4/16/08)
The Fort Hays State softball picked up a pair of wins over Newman University last night at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers hit two home runs and own the first game 4-1. Fort Hays then blew a 5-0 lead in game two only to come back with two in the eighth and win 7-6. Kayla Rupa was the winning pitcher in both games. She threw a complete game seven-hitter in the opener then pitched the final two innings in relief in game two allowing one unearned run in the eighth. Jessika Anastos and freshman Candice Kauffman homered in the opener. Anastos a solo shot and Kauffman a two-run blast in the sixth after she came in for Anastos who was injured on a crash play at the plate in the top of the inning. Sara Tani had four hits on the night as the Tigers improve to 29-21. Fort Hays is off until Tuesday when they host MIAA leader Emporia State.


FHSU Softball Splits With Missouri Western (4/15/-8)
The Fort Hays State Tiger softball team split their doubleheader with Missouri Western. The Tigers lose the opener 3-0 then come back and win game two 3-0. Kayla Rupa took the loss in the first game, allowing only two hits. Jessica Hamilton pitched a complete game three-hitter in the second. The Tigers scored three in the second, two of them unearned. The Tigers are now 27-21 overall and 6-8 in the MIAA where they sit alone in fifth place. Fort Hays is back at home this evening for Pack the Park against Newman. We’ll have the games on SportsRadio 1400 KAYS beginning at 4:45pm.


FHSU Softball Splits at Northwest Missouri State (4/14/08)
The Fort Hays State softball team split their MIAA makeup doubleheader at Northwest Missouri State yesterday. The Tigers win the opener 4-2 then lose game two 5-2. Kayla Rupa pitches a complete game two-hitter in the opener. Anna Herl hit her ninth homer of the season. In the second game, the Tigers fell behind 4-1 after two. Both of their runs were on Emily Herl solo homers. The Tigers return to action this afternoon with a makeup doubleheader at Missouri Western before they return home to play Newman tomorrow in their Pack the Park game beginning at 5pm. Softball Splits Pair of MIAA Doubleheaders (4//5/08)
The Fort Hays State softball team split a pair of MIAA doubleheaders this weekend. Central Missouri scored three in the top of the seventh in Friday's second game and won 3-2 after defeating the Tigers 8-0 in game one. Saturday, FHSU took a couple of come-from-behind one-run games from Truman State 8-7 and 2-1. Fort Hays State is now 25-19 overall and 4-6 in the MIAA. The Tigers go on the road next week for a conference doubleheader at Missouri Western on April 10 and another conference doubleheader on April 11 at Northwest Missouri State.

Softball Sweeps Newman (3/25/08)

The Fort Hays State softball team picked up a pair of wins yesterday in Wichita, defeating Newman 6-3 and 3-2. The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five and-a-half in the first game. They scored three in the fifth and the Jets put two across in the sixth in the second game. Kayla Rupa went the distance for the win in game one with Jessica Hamilton pitching five innings for the victory in the second game. Emily Rockefeller pitched the final two innings for the save. Jessika Anastos had four hits and drove in four runs on the day as the Tigers improve to 21-15 on the season. They resume MIAA play with a pair at Missouri Southern Friday and two at Southwest Baptist Saturday.


Tigers Swept By Cameron (3/21/08)
The Fort Hays State softball teams four-game winning streak came to and end Thursday afternoon, losing both ends of a doubleheader to Cameron (Okla.) 7-4 and 13-7. The first game was tied at one when the Aggies scored five in the fifth. In the second game, Cameron jumped out to a 6-2 lead after two innings and pushed the lead to 12-2 after four and-a-half. Emily Herl went 2-for-4 with four RBI's in the first game, Anna Herl had three hits and three RBI's in the second game. The Tigers are now 19-15 on the season.

Tigers Sweep West Texas A&M For Second Day (3/20/08)

The Fort Hays State softball team made it four-straight over West Texas A&M yesterday, sweeping their second straight doubleheader by scores of 4-1 and 5-3. The Tigers trailed game one 1-0 until Jessika Anastos hit a three-run homer in the third, her eleventh of the season which ties the school single-season record. Kayla Rupa went the distance for the win. Emily Rockefeller pitched four innings of relief for the win in game two. The Tigers are now 19-13 and host Cameron in a one o’clock doubleheader at Tiger Stadium this afternoon.


FHSU Softball Sweeps West Texas A&M (3/19/08)
The Fort Hays State softball team began their week of six home games with a sweep of West Texas A&M. The Tigers won the opener 2-0 on Emily Rockefeller’s three-hit shutout. Fort Hays scored both runs on solo homers from Jessika Anastos and Anna Herl. Herl then drove in the winning run in the eighth inning of game two on a bases loaded single and the Tigers win 4-3. Fort Hays improves to 17-13. They host the Buffaloes again this afternoon beginning at noon.

FHSU’s Anastos MIAA Player Of The Week (3/18/08)
Fort Hays State sophomore catcher Jessika Anastos is the first MIAA softball hitter of the week. The 5’8” sophomore from Broomfield, Colo. hit .526 with nine home runs and 29 runs batted in to open the season for the Tigers, and has eight hits in her last 10 at bats. The Tigers return to action this afternoon with a doubleheader against West Texas A&M at Tiger Stadium beginning at noon. The two will play again tomorrow at noon.


Tigers Drop MIAA Opener (3/17/08)
The Fort Hays State softball team was swept at Washburn Sunday in their MIAA opener. The Tigers lost the first game 5-0 then dropped game two 5-4 in eight innings. FHSU (15-13) led 4-3 after three in game two. The Tigers host West Texas A&M in a pair of doubleheaders Wednesday and Thursday.

FHSU Softball Wins Three From OPSU (3/1/08)

The Fort Hays State softball team took three of four from Oklahoma-Panhandle State Friday and Saturday. Friday the two split a doubleheader with Fort Hays winning the first game 7-1 then losing 12-1. Saturday the Tigers won both games 8-0. FHSU is now 14-9 on the season and will travel to Joplin for a two-day tournament beginning Friday.


FHSU Softball Goes 3-3 In Texas (2/25/08)

The Fort Hays State softball team split their doubleheader at West Texas A&M yesterday. The Tigers won the opener 8-5 then lost 12-1. They Tigers went 2-2 at the West Texas A&M Tournament losing twice to Cameron Friday then defeating Mesa State and Nebraska-Kearney Saturday. The Tiger softball team is now 11-8 on the season.


FHSU Softball Announces Two More Signings (8/1/07)
Fort Hays State softball coach Tonja Hadley announced the signings of two more players for next season. Arvada West High School teammates Candice Kauffman and Sara Tani will join the team beginning this fall. Kauffman is a catcher from Arvada, Colorado, and Tani is an outfielder from Westminster. The two also teamed up to play for the Arvada Bluejays club team, and join Hadley's largest signing class to date. Fort Hays State softball finished third in the MIAA last season.

Eight Softball Players Named To MIAA Honor Roll
Eight members of the Fort Hays State softball team were named to the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Alex Eaton, Alyson Garmatz, Anna Herl, Emily Herl, Hallie McMillen, Emily Rockefeller, Terra Upham and Sunny Valentine all received the honor. Eaton is a sophomore from Parker, Colo and is majoring in Organizational Leadership.Garmatz is a junior from Wheat Ridge, Colo and majoring in Art. The Herl twins, both juniors from Hays, Kan., are majoring in Health and Human Performance. McMillen is a sophomore from Topeka, Kan. and majoring in Psychology. Rockefeller, a junior from McPherson, Kan., is majoring in Chemistry while Upham is majoring in Psychology. Valentine, a senior from Eureka, Kan., is majoring in Chemistry.


McMillan Named To All-Region Team

Fort Hays State sophomore catcher Hallie McMillan has been named to the 2nd Team of the Daktronics All North Central Region Team. McMillan, who was named 1st Team All-MIAA last week, hit .357 with two home runs, a team leading 15 doubles and 36 RBI’s.


Five Softball Players Receive All-MIAA Recognition
Five members of the FHSU softball team have received all-conference recognition by the MIAA. Sophomore catcher Hallie McMillan is the only first team pick. Junior Anna Herl and freshman Jessika Anastos are second team picks. Herl at second base and Anastos at designated player. Junior's Emily Rockefeller and Emily Herl were both named honorable mention. The Tigers finished third in their first season as a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.


FHSU Softball Signs Two More For Next Season
Fort Hays State softball coach Tonja Hadley has announced the signing of two more high school seniors who will play for the Tigers next season. Savannah Hall from Sacred Heart High School in Salina and Kayla Rupa from Ponderosa High School in Parker, Colorado have both signed national letters of intent. Hall is an outfielder while Rupa is a left-handed pitcher and utility player. The Tigers have qualified for the MIAA Tournament which begins Friday in Kansas City. They won’t know until several makeup games are completed as to who they will play in the first round.


Softball Signs Three To Letters Of Intent
Fort Hays State softball coach Tonja Hadley has announced the signing of three high school players for next year. They are infielder Mona Booco from Westminster, Colorado, Chelsea Luther and outfielder/utility player from Sante Fe Trail high school and Danielle Lorenzini an outfielder from Pine Creek high school in Colorado Springs. Booco has played competitively for the Colorado Stars Gold team and helped Pomona HS to the Colorado State Tournament Final Four the last three seasons. Luther has played competitively for the Capital City Stars and was also a member SFTHS state championship volleyball team. Lorenzini h
as played for the Colorado Pony Express club team.
