Bancroft Receives Daktronics All Region Recognition (3/17/10)
Fort Hays State’s Naomi Bancroft has been named to the Daktronics All-South Central Region second-team. Bancroft was the team leader in scoring this past season at 17.0 points per game. She finished with 93 3-point field goals this year, her second most produced in a season during her four-year career at FHSU. Bancroft holds the career mark for made 3-pointers with 353. She finished seventh on the all-time scoring list at FHSU with 1,449 points. She was one out of just three players from the MIAA to earn Daktronics All-Region honors.

Lady Tigers Upset Bid Falls Short At MIAA Tournament (3/4/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers pushed No. 15 Emporia State in their MIAA tournament opener last night in Kansas City, but a big second half by the Hornets lifted them to a 72-66 victory. Fort Hays State hit six first-half 3's in building a 14-point lead and was up nine in the second half when the Hornets put together a 17-2 run to take their first lead of the game. The Tigers scored the next six to tie the game and led by three with a little over three minutes to play before getting outscored 14-5 the rest of the way. Fort Hays was just 2-for-12 from behind the arc in the second half while the Hornets, who hit just 1-of-11 3's in the first half, hit 5-of-10 in the second. Fort Hays State was led in scoring by their four seniors. Erica Biel led the way with 18, Naomi Bancroft 16, Audra Binford 10 and Kayla Klug 9 along with 8 assists. FHSU ends their season on an 8-game losing streak and with a 15-13 record.

Bancroft, Biel Named To All-MIAA Women's Basketball Team (3/2/10)
Fort Hays State seniors Naomi Bancroft and Erica Biel have both been named to the All-MIAA Women’s Basketball Team. Bancroft is named to the first team while Biel, who was a first-team pick a year ago, is named honorable mention. Bancroft is averaging 17 points per game, second best in the conference, and she’s joined on the first team by Emporia State’s Cassondra Boston who is also the player of the year, Dayna Rodriguez of Washburn, Rebecca Roberts from Central Missouri, Deprice Taylor of Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State’s Gentry Dietz. Washburn’s Ron McHenry is the Coach of the Year and Emporia State’s Rachel Hanf the Freshman of the Year.

Lady Tiger Lose Regular Season Finale To No. 12 Hornets (2/29/10)
Emporia State hit 13 3-pointers to hold off the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers 87-80 Sunday. Fort Hays led by 12 in the first half but the Hornets answered with an 18-2 run and were up five at the half. The Tigers pulled within one with a little over 14 minutes to play but the Hornets stretched the lead to ten and held Fort Hays at bay the rest of the way. Fort Hays was led in scoring by their four seniors. Naomi Bancroft had 16, Eric Biel 14, Audra Binford 13 and Kayla Klug 9. The Tigers end the regular season 15-12 and 8-12 in the MIAA and have now lost 21 straight to nationally ranked opponents. They will be the seven-seed for the MIAA tournament and play Emporia State at six o’clock Thursday.

Lady Tigers Come Up Short To Pittsburt State. Drop Sixth Straight (2/24/10)
The Fort Hays State women shot only 24-percent in the second half and lose 78-74 to Pittsburg State. The Tigers led by eleven late in the first half and were up eight at halftime but the Gorillas close the game on a 10-3 run hitting all eight of their free throws in the final 45-seconds. Erica Biel scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Naomi Bancroft added 16 with Shelby Hillman chipping in with a season-high 12. The Lady Tigers have now lost six straight to fall to 15-11 and 8-11 in the MIAA.


Lady Tigers Lost 5th Straight, Lose At Missouri Southern (2/20/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers drop their fifth straight, losing 91-53 at Missouri Southern. FHSU (15-10, 8-10 MIAA) trailed by 14 at the half and were outscored 31-6 to start the second half and trailed by as many as 40. Fort Hays shot just 35-percent and was just 3-for-13 from 3-point range. The Lions hit 57-percent of their shots, including 11 3-pointers. Erica Biel led the Tigers with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Kara Champlin added 10.

Lady Tigers Lose 4th Straight (2/18/10)
The Fort Hays State women's basketball team drop their fourth straight, losing 66-53 at Southwest Baptist. The Lady Tigers trailed by eleven at halftime and were down 16 before pulling within five a little under 8 1/2 minutes to play. The Bearcats responded with a 15-3 to build a 17-point lead. Fort Hays shoots only 33-percent and were just 3-of-14 from 3-point range. Erica Biel led the Tigers with 15. Fort Hays is now 15-8 and 8-8 in the MIAA.

Lady Tiger Out Of South Central Region Rankings (2/17/10)
Two home losses has dropped the Fort Hays State women out of the latest South Central Region rankings. The Tigers were eighth in last week's poll. West Texas A&M continues to hold down the top spot followed by Emporia State, Washburn, Northeastern State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Tarleton State, Central Oklahoma and Abilene Christian. St. Mary's and Incarnate Word round out the poll.


Lady Tigers Lose Another Heartbreaker At Home (2/13/10)
For a second straight game, the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers miss a layup in the closing seconds that would have forced overtime, and lose to Central Missouri 65-63. The Jennies (13-10, 9-7 MIAA) closed the first half on a 20-6 run to build a 13-point halftime lead. They would lead by 15 early in the second half before the Tigers rallied to pull within one at 61-60 with 1:11 to play. Noami Bancroft led FHSU (15-8, 8-8 MIAA) with 18 points and 9 rebounds but was just 5-20 from the floor and 3-16 from 3-point range. Erica Biel added 13 points and 11 rebounds while Audra Binford came off the bench to score 12 points.

Lady Tigers Suffer Home Loss To Bulldogs (2/11/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers let a 12-point second half lead slip away and lose to Truman State 63-61. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 15-5 over the final ten minutes. The Tigers had their chances but Erica Biel missed the front end of a one-and-one with 12 seconds left then missed a layup and follow attempt inside three seconds. Biel led the Tigers, who shot just 35-percent, with a season-high 22 points and five blocked shots. Naomi Bancroft struggled to 3 of 12 shooting and scored just nine points. The Lady Tigers drop to 15-7 and 8-7 in the MIAA.

Women's Basketball Falls Short Of Upset Bid (2/6/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers were close to ending their 19-game losing streak to nationally ranked teams, but Washburn used a couple of key 3-pointers to hold off the Tigers upset bid, 50-45. Fort Hays fell behind 10-0 but over the first four minutes, but rallied to within one at halftime. They tied the game at 42 with just under five minutes to play but Washburn's Hope Gregory hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to six. The Tigers shot only 26-percent for the game and were led by Erica Biel's 15 points. Freshman Traci Keyser added 14 and Naomi Bancroft 11. FHSU is now 15-6 and 8-6 in the MIAA.

Lady Tigers Hold At No. 7 In Region Rankings (2/3/10)
Despite their loss at Northwest Missouri State Saturday, the Fort Hays State women’s basketball team remains 7th in this week’s South Central Region rankings. West Texas A&M is still at the top followed by Emporia State, Northestern State (Okla.), Washburn, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Tarleton State (Tex.). Abilene Christian is 8th with Central Oklahoma and Texas A&M-Kingsville rounding out the poll.

Women's Basketball Picks Up Big Win At Missouri Western (2/10/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers scored the games first nine points and led by as many as 20 in the first half and defeat Missouri Western 66-52 for their first win in St. Joseph since 1986. FHSU (15-5, 8-5 MIAA) was led by Erica Biel who scored 16 and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Traci Keyser added a career-best 14 points and 8 rebounds. She did miss a free throw ending here consecutive made streak at 23.

Lady Tigers Lose At Northwest (1/30/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers turned in their worst shooting game of the season and lost 75-54 at Northwest Missouri State. FHSU (14-5, 7-5 MIAA) warmed up late in the game to shoot 27.9%. The Lady Tigers led by five early but a 14-2 Bearcat run gave Northwest the lead for good. The Tigers were outrebounded by 19 and outscored 48-14 in the paint and 21-8 on second chance points. Naomi Bancroft was the only Tiger to reach double-figures with 11 points. Gentry Dietz scored 37 and grabbed 16 rebounds. It's the third highest point total in Bearcat history and the fourth most ever scored at Bearcat Arena.

FHSU Women Pick Up Big Home Win Over UNO (1/27/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers break their first two-game losing streak of the season with a 76-66 win over UNO. The Tigers never trailed thanks to a 7-0 run to start the game then another 9-0 run midway through the first half. UNO was never closer than six the entire game which was won at the free throw line where Fort Hays hit 32 of 39 and the Mavs 12 of 24. Despite hitting just 2 of 18 3-point shots, Naomi Bancroft led the Tigers with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Erica Biel added 17 and freshman Traci Keyser 12 as the Tigers move to 14-4 and 7-4 in the MIAA.

FHSU Women In 1st South Central Region Poll (1/27/10)
The Fort Hays State women are ranked sevnth in the first NCAA II South Central Region poll out this afternoon. West Texas A&M sits atop the rankings followed by Emporia State, Northeastern State (Okla.), Washburn, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Tarleton State (Tex.). St. Mary's (Tex.) is eighth with Abilene Christian (Tex.) and Central Oklahoma rounding out the top-ten. The region rankings are used to determine the NCAA II national tournament field.

Lady Tigers Fall To 6th-Ranked Hornets (1/20/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers took their only lead inside the first minute of the second half but get outscored 54-34 in that second half and lose 88-67 to the 6th-ranked Hornets. Cassondra Boston hit six 3-pointers, five of them after halftime to key the Hornets. Naomi Bancroft hit four 3’s and led the Tigers with 22 but was 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the second half. Erica Biel and freshman Traci Keyser both score 11 and Kara Champlin 10 as the Lady Tiger drop their second straight for the first time this season.

Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest At Pitt State (1/16/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers let a 7-point lead with 13 1/2 minutes to play slip away and lose 71-65 at Pittsburg State in a battle of 3rd-place teams. The game was tied 28-all at the half and FHSU (13-3, 6-3 MIAA) used an 11-6 run to go up 48-41 with 13:31 left. Pitt State (9-7, 7-2 MIAA) outscored the Tigers 25-11 over the next 5:45 to go up seven. Fort Hays pulled within one at 66-65 but the Gorillas scored the final four for the victory. Erica Biel recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Klug came off the bench to score 16 and Naomi Bancroft 13.

Tiger Women Win 4th Straight (1/11/10)
For the first time since joined the MIAA, the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers have a four-game conference win streak. Naomi Bancroft scored a career-high 34 points, hitting eight 3-pointers in a 73-68 victory over Missouri Southern. The Tigers used a decisive 22-8 second half run to build a 14-point lead then held on the rest of the way as they improve to 13-2 and 6-2 in the MIAA. Freshman Traci Keyser tied a career-high with 13 points and Erica Biel added ten.

Lady Tigers Win 3rd Straight. Defeat Southwest Baptist (1/9/10)
For just the second time since joining the MIAA, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team scores 90 points against a conference opponent and wins three straight conference games in a 90-64 victory over Southwest Baptist. FHSU (12-2, 5-2 MIAA) closed the first half with a 25-10 run to go up 13. A 23-9 second half run pushed the lead to 26. Naomi Bancroft and Erica Biel both scored 20 with Kayla Klug and Ashley Binford both adding 15. The Tigers hit 24-of-26 free throws and outrebounded the Bearcats by ten.

FHSU Women Rally Past Jennies (1/4/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers have back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2007 after rallying from 14 points down in the second half for a 71-64 victory over Central Missouri. FHSU (11-2, 4-2 MIAA) used an 18-4 run to tie the game at 48. The seven-point lead at the end was their biggest of the game. Noami Bancroft led three Tigers in double-figures with 20 points, hitting 5-of-10 from 3-point range. Erica Biel scored 16 and Kayla Klug ten.

FHSU Women Defeat Truman State (1/2/10)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers used a 12-0 second half run, ten of which were scored by Naomi Bancrodft, to build a 16-point lead and defeat Truman State 67-60. The Tigers scored the games first seven points and led 12-3 only to see Truman (6-7, 1-5 MIAA) used a 10-0 run to go up three late in the half. FHSU (10-2, 3-2 MIAA) led by two when they used the decisive run midway through the second half. Bancroft led the Tigers scoring 21 points. Kayla Klug added 14 and Erica Biel eleven along with nine rebounds. FHSU shot 39-percent but hit 7-of-14 3-pointers and outrebounded the Bulldogs by seven.


Lady Tigers Fall To No. 8 Lady Blues (12/30/09)
Washburn used a 16-0 run over a six minute stretch of the second half to build a 15-point lead and defeat the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers 57-47 to move to 11-0. Fort Hays would pull within five with just over 6 1/2 minutes to play, but the Lady Blues responded with an 8-2 run to push the lead to eleven. Naomi Bancroft hit five 3-pointers to lead all scoring with 21 points. Erica Biel added ten as the Lady Tigers drop to 9-2 and 2-2 in the MIAA.

Bancroft MIAA Player Of The Week For 2nd Consecutive Week (12/21/09)
Bancroft helped the Lady Tigers finish non-conference play unbeaten (7-0) by scoring a team-high 24 points in the six-point win over Doane College. The senior from Vona, Colo., had nine of Fort Hays State's final 10 points in the game. With FHSU trailing by one point with 3:02 remaining, Bancroft buried a 3-pointer to help FHSU finally overtake Doane for good. She hit two more field goals inside the arc to extend the Lady Tiger lead to six, and then hit two free throws under a minute to hold off Doane. Doane led by 10 points at halftime. It was the third time in the last four games that Bancroft scored at least 20 points. It was the fourth time this year that she scored 20 or more. Bancroft also recorded a team-high five steals in the game. She helped Fort Hays State to its first 9-1 start since the school's only national championship year in women's basketball, 1990-91, as members of the NAIA.

Lady Tigers Rally Past Doane (12/16/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers used a couple of 8-0 second half runs to take the lead after trailing by ten at halftime and defeat Doane 68-62 last night at Gross Coliseum. Doane scored the first eight points of the game and were up as many as eleven in the first half. Fort Hays didn’t secure the win until Naomi Bancroft scored eight straight to put the Tigers up seven with :36 to play. Bancroft finished with a game-high 24 points. Freshman Traci Keyser added a career-best 13, all in the first half, and was the only other Lady Tiger in double-figures. The win moves Fort Hays to 9-1. They are now off until the 30th when they host 8th-ranked Washburn.

Bancroft MIAA Player Of The Week (12/14/09)
Fort Hays State's Naomi Bancroft is the MIAA's women's basketball Player of the Week. The senior from Vona, Colorado led the Tigers in scoring in both of their home conference wins. She scored eight of the nine points in a 9-0 run to close out the Northwest Missouri State game. Against Missouri Western, Bancroft hit all three of her 3-point field goals within the final 3:30 of the first half, which came in a 14-3 run by the Lady Tigers to extend a six-point lead to 17 points
. Bancroft has reached double figures in scoring in each game this year.

Women's Basketball Holds Off Griffons (12/12/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers closed the first half on a 26-10 run and led by as many as 28 in the second half before settling for a 75-61 win over Missouri Western. The Griffons pulled within ten with just over a minute to play. The Tigers shot 61-percent in the first half and 53-percent for the game. Naomi Bancroft scored 18 and grabbed seven rebounds to move into 11th in all-time scoring at Fort Hays State with 1,129 points. Kara Champlin added 13 points off the bench and Kara McFarland chipped in with ten. The Lady Tigers improve to 8-1 and 2-1 in the MIAA.

Lady Tigers Hold Off Bearcats (12/9/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers closed their game on a 16-2 run after falling behind by four with just over four minutes to play and beat the Bearcats 76-66. Naomi Bancroft scored eight straight points to push a one-point lead to seven with 1:18 to play. Bancroft finished with 22. Kayla Klug added 16 and five assists and Whitney Taylor ten. The Lady Tigers shoot 50-percent in the second half while holding the Bearcats to 31-percent to improve to 7-1 and 1-1 in the MIAA.

Slow Start Dooms Lady Tigers At UNO. (12/5/09)
The Fort Hays State women's basketball team was held scoreless for the first 5:07, falling behind 10-0 and lose their MIAA opener at Nebraska-Omaha 68-62. FHSU (6-1, 0-1 MIAA) pulled within a point at 16-5 but UNO responded with a 19-8 run and led by eleven at halftime. They pushed the lead to 16 early in the second before the Tigers mounted a comeback. Kayla Klug's layup pulled Fort Hays within a point with :23 to play but the Mavericks hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch for the win. Naomi Bancroft led the Tigers with 21 points but hit just 2-of-12 from 3-point range. Erica Biel added 10 points in the loss.

FHSU Women Cruise Past Newman (12/2/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers overcame a sluggish start to cruise past Newman 88-57 to start the season 6-0. The Tigers put together a 23-8 run to end the first half and build a 16 point halftime lead. Kayla Klug led five Tigers in double-figures with 15. Audra Binford went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to finish with 13 as did Erica Biel. Naomi Bancroft and Traci Keyser both chipped in with ten. The Tigers shot 51-percent for the game and were 8-for-18 from 3-point range. The Tigers are in Omaha Saturday to open MIAA play against Nebraska-Omaha.

Women's Basketball Goes 2-0 In Colorado With Win Over Regis (11/28/09)
The Fort Hays State women's basketball team wins both of their games at the Colorado Mines Thanksgiving Classic, defeating Regis 60-51 in a battle of unbeatens. The Tigers shot just 36-percent in the game but held the Rangers to 29-percent and just 16-percent from 3-point range. The Tigers led by only one at halftime 21-20, but pushed the lead as high as 15 in the second half. Naomi Bancroft led the Lady Tigers in scoring for the fourth time in five games this year with 13 points. Kara Champlin grabbed ten rebounds and the Tigers bench scored 29 of their 60 points helping FHSU to a 5-0 start.

Women's Basketball Wins 4th Straight (11/27/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers won their second straight against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, defeating Colorado School of Mines 56-47 at the CSM Thanksgiving Classic. FHSU scored the first eight points and never trailed in moving to 4-0. The Oredigges scored ten straight to tie the game at 16 but the Tigers responded with a 10-0 run. Naomi Bancroft was the only Tiger in double-figures with 19 points.

Women's Basketball Rallies For Win Against Lopers (11/24/09)
The Lady Tigers hit just two of their first 14 shots and missed their first seven from 3-point range, but a 16-2 second half run put them up eight and they hold off UNK 55-50. The Tigers shot just 32-percent for the game and hit just 4-of-18 from beyond the arc. Kayla Klug led three in double-figures with 15 points. Erica Biel had 14 points and 9 rebounds while Noami Bancroft chipped in with 11 as the Tigers start 3-0.

Women's Basketball Signs High School Guard (11/20/09)
Fort Hays State women's basketball coach Tony Hobson has announced the signing of Hannah Ritter, a 5'7" guard, for the 2010-11 season. Ritter is from Jay, Oklahoma near the Arkansas border and has been tabbed by the Tulsa World as one of its top three players to watch in Oklahoma Class 4A this season. She was an all-conference selection as a junior, averaging nearly 13 points, six rebounds and three assists per game. She was also among the steals leaders in Class 4A.

Lady Tigers Hit School Record 16 3's In Rout Of NOSU (11/18/09)
The Lady Tigers hit a new school singe-game record 16 3-pointers as they roll to an 89-33 rout of Northwestern Oklahoma State. Fort Hays State used a 34-4 first half run to build a 31-point first half lead then outscored the Rangers 17-2 to start the second half. Naomi Bancroft hit five 3’s and led the Tigers with 15 points. Ellis freshman Whitney Taylor added eleven with Erica Biel and Audra Binford chipping in with ten.

Lady Tigers Roll Past Bethany (11/15/09)
The Fort Hays State women opened their season with a big win, defeating Bethany 104-56. The Tigers led by 16 at the half then opened the second half on a 24-2 run. The Tigers shot 55-percent for the game and outrebounded the Swedes by 15. Naomi Bancroft led the way with 26 points, Audra Binford added 17 with Erica Beil and freshman Kara McFarland adding 10 each.

Women's Basketball Loses By 13 At Kansas State (11/3/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers didn’t go down easy, losing to Kansas State 81-68 in their only exhibition game last night. The Tigers trailed by 21 early in the second half but chipped away with three-pointers on three straight possessions in a two and-a-half minute stretch to pull within nine before the Wildcats pushed the lead to 16 with a little over a minute to play. Kayla Klug hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and led the Tigers with 16. Naomi Bancroft added 15 but was just 2-for-15 from beyond the arc. Ashley Sweat lead K-State with 20.

Tigers Women's Basketball Picked High In Media And Coaches Poll (10/27/09)
The MIAA held their basketball media day yesterday in Kansas City and also unveiled their men’s and women’s basketball preseason polls. The Fort Hays State men are picked third in the media poll and fourth by the coaches while the women are fifth in the coaches and sixth in the media rankings. The Southwest Baptist men topped the coaches poll and Central Missouri the media. The Emporia State women were first in both the coaches and media poll. The Fort Hays State men return three starters from their 20-9 season a year ago and open with an exhibition game at Kansas Tuesday. The Tiger women return four starters from a 12-16 season and have nine new players on the roster. They play at Kansas State Tuesday.

Hobson Adds Five To Women’s Basketball Recruiting Class (5/14/09)

Fort Hays State head women’s basketball coach Tony Hobson has announced the signing of five more players bringing his recruiting class for next season to nine. The five include Hoxie native and Wichita State transfer Jacie Hoyt who will have two years of eligibility remaining as will 6’2” forward Kara Champlin, a Cloud County CC transfer and Concordia native. Sophomore Kimber Wieser from Grinnell transfers from Barton CC as does 5’11” forward Shelby Hillman a Cheney native. Ellis senior Whitney Taylor rounds out the five who join incoming freshman Traci Keyser from Cambridge, Neb., Haley Linsdsey from Bucklin, Kara McFarland from Ottawa and Kelsie Sorenson from McPherson.

Poor Shooting 2nd Half Ends Tigers MIAA Tourney (3/6/09)
Fort Hays State hit an MIAA Tournament record low three field goals in the second half and fall to #11 Washburn 73-47 in the opening-round of the MIAA Tournament.
The No. 7-seed Lady Tigers (12-16, 8-12 MIAA) were down only two at the break, 31-29, after a first half which featured four ties and 13 lead changes. The second half was a different story as FHSU missed its first 13 shots before junior Morgan Clark tallied a layup at the 12:09 mark. The Tigers were 1-for-28 from the floor in the second half before hitting their second field goal. Naomi Bancroft finished with 14 points to lead the Lady Tigers, going 4-of-19 from three-point range. She broke the tournament record for three-point attempts in a game. Bancroft finished the season with 110 three-pointers made -- six shy of the MIAA record of 116. Audra Binford and junior Kayla Klug each added 12 points. Erica Biel, who was sick all week with the flu, ended up with just two points and four rebounds.

Biel Named All-MIAA (3/2/09)
The MIAA is out with their all-conference teams and Fort Hays State’s Erica Biel is on the women’s first team. She’s joined by Emporia State’s Ida Edwards and Cassondra Boston, Washburn’s Janice Bright and Pittsburg State’s Nicole McCombs. Biel was also named to the all-defensive team. Edwards is the Player of Year, Missouri Western’s Jessica Koch Freshman of the Year and Pittsburg State’s Lane Lord Coach of the Year.

Lady Tigers Battle #5 Emporia State, Lose By 5 (2/28/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers closed out their regular season with a 73-68 loss at #5 Emporia State Saturday night at White Auditorium. FHSU (12-15, 8-12 MIAA) trailed by as many as 17 in the first half and were down by 14 at the half but used a 19-5 second half run to close within two, however they would get no closer as they drop their seventh-straight to the Hornets in Emporia. Naomi Bancroft hit five 3's in the first half and lead the Tigers with 21 points and also had five assists. Erica Biel and Audra Binford both added 18. Binford hit a pair of 3's to cut the Hornets lead to two, the latest with 1:30 to play. The Tigers will be the seven-seed for the MIAA Tournament Friday and face #2 Washburn in the six o'clock game at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

FHSU End 20-Game Road Losing Streak, Upend Pitt State (2/26/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers shot 65-percent in the first half and 60-percent for the game as they end a 20-game road losing streak dating back to February 15, 2007 with an 83-64 win over the third-place Gorillas. The Tigers used an 11-0 first half run to build a 15-point lead and were up 18 at the half. They extended the lead to 21 on an Erica Biel three to open the second half and never let Pitt State closer than ten the rest of the way. Naomi Bancroft led four Tigers in double-figures with 20. Biel added 19 points and 13 boards. Morgan Clark scored 17 and had 13 rebounds and Audra Binford chipped in 15. The win improves the Tigers to 12-14 and 8-11 in the conference. They close out their regular season at conference leading Emporia State who's ranked fifth in this week's WBCA Top-25.

Biel MIAA Player of the Week (2/24/09)
Fort Hays State's Erica Biel is this week’s MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. The Hutchinson junior averaged 20 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2.5 assists in the Tigers two home wins last week that locked up a spot in the MIAA Tournament. Biel leads the MIAA with 15 double-doubles.

FHSU Erases 17-point Deficit Against MSSU, Secures MIAA Tourney Berth (2/21/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers erase a 17-point first half deficit and in the process lock up a spot in the MIAA Tournament with a 69-66 win over Missouri Southern. The Tigers trailed by 15 with 13:24 to play when they scored 15 unanswered. They took the lead for good on a Morgan Clark layup with 7:44 to play. FHSU (11-14, 7-11 MIAA) shot 58-percent in the second half while holding the Lions to 32-percent after they had connected on 56-percent in the first half. Naomi Bancroft scored 20, Audra Binford 16, Clark 14 and Erice Biel 13 in the victory. The Tigers also locked up a spot in the MIAA Tournament when Northwest Missouri State and Southwest Baptist both lost.

Lady Tigers Pick Up Crucial Win Over SBU (2/18/09)
The Fort Hays State women are step closer to securing a spot in their first MIAA Tournament with a 74-62 win over Southwest Baptist. The Tigers led by eleven at halftime. The Bearcats closed the gap to three over the first four minutes of the second half but miss eleven of their final 12 shots. Erica Biel, who had a double-double at halftime, was dominant inside scoring 27 and ties her career-high with 17 rebounds. Audra Binford added 15 including three 3-pointers. The Lady Tigers improve to 10-14 and 6-11 in the conference. They close out their home schedule Saturday at 2pm against Missouri Southern.

Lady Tigers Rally Falls Short at UCM (2/14/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers second half rally falls short as they fall 72-67 at Central Missouri Saturday. FHSU (9-14, 5-11 MIAA) trailed by 15 at halftime and were down 14 with under five minutes to play before drawing as close as three down the stretch. The Jennies hit five of their first six shots, four of them 3-pointers. Erice Biel led Fort Hays with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Her MIAA leading 13th double-double of the season. Naomi Bancroft scored 16, all in the second half, and Kayla Klug dropped in 13.

FHSU Women Fall at Truman (2/12/09)
Georgia Mueller hit six free throws in the final 30 seconds, lifting the Truman State women to a 59-54 victory of the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers Thursday in Kirksville. Morgan Clark hit two free throws with :41 seconds left to put FHSU on top 54 53. Mueller was fouled on the Bulldogs next possession to put Truman up one. Naomi Bancroft missed a baseline jumper with under five seconds to play. Tiger coach Tony Hobson was then called for a technical foul arguing that Bancroft was fouled on the shot. Eric Biel led Fort Hays with 17 points and eleven rebounds. It's her MIAA leading 13th double-double of the season. Kayla Klug scored eleven and Ashley Cornett ten. She hit three three's to break the single-season three-point record she set a year ago. The loss in the Lady Tigers 19th straight on the road.

Lady Tigers Lose To #10 Washburn (2/7/09)

The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers were tied at ten with 10th-ranked Washburn at the 13:30 mark, but it was all Lady Blues after that. Washburn jumped to a 16-point halftime lead and were up as many as 28 in the second half before settling for an 83-60 win. FHSU (9-12, 5-9 MIAA) hit their first two 3-point tries then missed their next ten. Erica Biel led the Tigers with her MIAA leading 12th double-double scoring 26 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Kayla Klug added eleven points in the loss. Naomi Bancroft left with a knee injury late in the first half and never returned. The Tigers have lost two-straight and seven of their last nine.

Lady Tigers Drop Road Game at Western (1/4/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers road losing streak is now at 18 following a 62-55 loss to Missouri Western. Fort Hays was within one at halftime and had a brief two-point lead early in the second half but a 9-1 Griffon lead gave them the lead for good. Naomi Bancroft hit seven three’s and finished with a game-high 25. Erica Biel added nine points and eleven boards. The Lady Tigers drop to 9-11 and 5-8 in the MIAA. It’s just Western’s third win of the season, all in conference play. Both the Tiger men and women return home Saturday night to host Washburn.

Big Second Half Lifts Tiger Ladies Past Bearcats (1/31/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers used a 16-9 run over the first six minutes of the second half to build a 14-point lead and end their five-game losing streak with a 75-60 victory over Northwest Missouri State. Audra Binford who had hit just one of her 17 three-point tries over the last three games connected on 4-of-8 and led the Tigers with a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds. Erica Biel added 14 points and 12 boards. Naomi Bancroft who scored a career-high 33 on a school-record nine three-pointers Wednesday, was held to four points at halftime. She finished with 15. FHSU (9-10, 5-7 MIAA) hit 7-of-10 from beyond the arc in the second half.

Lady Tigers Road Woes Continue, Lose at UNO (1/28/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers couldn't take advantage of a career-game from Naomi Bancroft and lost their 17th straight road game, 69-60 at Nebraska-Omaha. Bancroft hit an FHSU single-game record nine 3-pointers, scoring a career-best 33 points in the losing effort. Bancroft scored the final 17-points of the first half to help FHSU (8-10, 4-7 MIAA) erase a 14-point first half deficit. The Tigers scored 18 straight over the first and second half and led by seven with 16:47 to play. UNO (8-9, 5-7 MIAA) answered with an 18-5 run to take the lead for good. Bancroft finished 9-for-17 from 3-point range but the rest of the Tigers were 1-for-14. It's the second straight game in which the Tigers, who have lost five-straight, has had a player score over 30 points.

ady Tigers Blown Out By 5th-Ranked Hornets (1/21/09)
5th-ranked Emporia State handed the Fort Hays State women their worst home loss since 1983 with a 90-51 blowout. The Hornets used a 33-11 run late in the first half to go up 21. They closed out the game outscoring the Tigers 23-4 over the final ten minutes. Erica Biel had a career night scoring 31 and grabbing 13 rebounds. It's her MIAA leading tenth double-double of the season. The Lady Tigers have dropped four-straight to fall to 8-9 and 4-6 in the MIAA.

Cold First Half Costs Lady Tigers in Home Loss to Pitts State (1/17/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers went nearly six minutes in the first half without scoring and almost eight and-a-half minutes without a field goal and loss at home to Pittsburg State 71-60. The Gorillas (11-5, 6-3 MIAA) led by as many as 19 int the first half and were up eleven at halftime. FHSU (8-8, 4-5 MIAA) pulled within four with 11:50 to play but Pitt State answered with a 15-2 run to push the lead to 15. Erica Biel led the Tigers with her conference leading ninth double-double, scoring a career-high 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Naomi Bancroft scored 12 but hit just 2-of-13 from 3-point range. Morgan Clark added eleven points and ten boards. It's the first conference home loss for the Tiger women.

ady Tigers Lose at Missouri Southern (1/12/09)
Missouri Southern outscored the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers 21-12 over the last 13 1/2 minutes Monday night for a 62-54 victory in Joplin. Fort Hays used a 9-0 run to tie the game at 40 only to see the Lions score the next seven to lead for good. The Tigers closed the first half on 12-3 run to pull within two at 28-26. Kayla Klug and Erica Biel both scored 15 and Naomi Bancroft added 13. Morgan Clark scored nine and pulled down ten rebounds. Fort Hays has lost 16-straight road games and drops to 8-7 and 4-4 in the MIAA.

FHSU Falls Short at Southwest Baptist (1/10/09)
Southwest Baptist outscored the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers 11-0 over the final five-plus minutes to rally for a 65-63 victory Saturday night in Bolivar, Mo. FHSU (8-6, 4-3 MIAA) led by ten  (61-51) following an Erica Biel putback wiht 6:01 to play. A Naomi Bancroft putback put the Tigers up 63-54 with 5:17 to play but that would be the final points they would score. Fort Hays missed six three-pointers and turned the ball over three times in the final five minutes. Biel had a chance to break a 63-all tie but missed two free throws with :25 seconds to play. Cortney Shewmaker's layup with :08 gave SBU (6-8, 3-4 MIAA) the lead. Morgan Clark's last second shot missed. Biel led FHSU with 19 points and 16 rebounds, her MIAA leading eight double-double. Bancroft added 14 points and Audra Binford chipped in 13. The Tigers have now lost their last 15 road games.

ady Tigers Defeat Jennies (1/7/09)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers pick up a big win. Kayla Klug led five Tigers in double-figures with 17 points as the Tigers knock off Central Missouri 79-60. Naomi Bancroft’s 3-pointer at the end of the half put FHSU (8-5, 4-2 MIAA) five at halftime. Erica Biel scored six of her ten points during a key 14-5 second half run that put the Tigers up nine. Fort Hays would extend that run to 31-10 and go up as many as 23 in the second half. Fort Hays outscored the Jennies 38-18 in the paint.

FHSU Downs Truman (1/3/09)
The Fort Hays State women used an early 13-2 run to build an 11-point lead and never trailed again as they snap a two-game skid with a 71-46 victory over the Truman State Bulldogs Saturday afternoon. FHSU (7-5, 3-2 MIAA) led 41-22 at the half and outscored Truman (3-10, 0-6 MIAA) 30-24 in the second half. FHSU hit 12-of-26 from 3-point range. Naomi Bancroft hit 7 3-pointers for a second straight game to lead FHSU with 24 points. Erica Biel collected her conference leading 6th double-double in the first half and finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. She also added 5 blocked shots. Kayla Klug added 16 points and 6 assists. Truman played the game without their leading scorer and rebounder Georgia Mueller.

Lady Tigers Lost at #2 Washburn (12/31/08)
The 2nd-ranked Washburn Lady Blues used a 19-1 first half run to build a 16-point lead and defeat the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers 77-58 Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers (6-5, 2-2 MIAA) closed to within 7 late in the first half and were down 9 at the half but the Lady Blues (12-0, 5-0 MIAA) opened the second half on a 10-4 run to go up 16 and were up as many as 25 in the second half. Naomi Bancroft hit a career-high 7 3-pointers and led FHSU with 23 points. Audra Binford added 10.

Tigers Fall at Northwest Missouri State (12/29/08)
The Fort Hays State women missed their final five shots and lose 55-50 at Northwest Missouri State to end their 4-game win-streak. Erica Biel's layup with just over 3 minutes to play tied the game at 50. The Bearcats would take the lead for good on a putback bucket on their next possession. Northwest hit a three with 45 seconds to play to seal the win. Biel finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Tigers drop to 6-4 and 2-1 in the MIAA.

FHSU’s Wiles Named to RMAC All-Time Women’s Basketball Team (12/17/08)
Former Fort Hays State All-American Annette Wiles has been named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's All-Time Women’s Basketball Team. The 12-member squad was announced yesterday in conjunction with the RMAC’s 100th anniversary in 2009. Wiles was a member of the Tigers from 1987-91 and is the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder and helped lead the team to the 1991 NAIA national championship. Diana Lopez from Regis is the MVP and Amy Stephens, former Nebraska-Kearney coach, the Coach of the Year. Last month, Alonzo Goldston was named to the RMAC’s all-time men’s team.

Lady Tigers Win 4th-Straight (12/13/08)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tiger basketball team scored the games' first 11 points and never led Missouri Western closer than 6 points on their way to a 73-61 victory. It's FHSU's 4th-straight win and gives them a 2-0 start in MIAA play. The Tigers closed the first half on a 91- run, holding the Griffons without a field goal for the final 5 1/2 minutes of the first half. Eric Biel, playing with a sore back, led four Tigers in double-figures with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Audra Binford added 15, Kayla Klug 14 and Naomi Bancroft 12. The victory improves to the Tigers to 6-3 and 2-0 in the MIAA. The Griffons are 0-7. The Tigers don't play against until December 27th at Northwest Missouri State.

Miller Tears ACL, Done for Year (12/10/08)
Fort Hays State freshman point guard Talia Miller is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL on her left knee in practice Monday. It's the third ACL injury for Miller and the second on her left knee. She missed the entire season at Hastings College last year while rehabbing the same knee. Miller was averaging 6.5 points and 3 rebounds and a team leading 4.1 assists in 8 games this season.

Lady Tigers Win MIAA Opener (12/5/08)
The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers scored seven-straight after falling behind 2-nothing at the start and never trailed again on their way to an 87-70 win in their MIAA opener against conference newcomer Nebraska-Omaha Friday. The Tigers led 45-33 at the half, were up as many as 18 in the second half. They outscored UNO 12-4 for the final margin. Kayla Klug led four Tigers (5-3, 1-0 MIAA) in double-figures with 19 points on 4-of-7 3-point shooting. Erica Biel scores 17 along with 9 rebounds, Audra Binford adds 16 and  Morgan Clark 14 and 9 rebounds. FHSU has won 3-straight.

FHSU Women Win 2nd-Straigth, Blow By Panhandle (12/2/08)
The Fort Hays State women used a 25-0 run over a nine and-a-half minute stretch of the first half and blow past Oklahoma-Panhandle State 74-52 last night at Gross Coliseum. The Tigers were down five with just under 14 minutes to play before taking control with the big run and led by 19 at the half and were up as many as 31 in the second half. Kayla Klug, Audra Binford and Erica Biel all scored 16 points to lead the Tigers. Biel added 15 rebounds as FHSU wins back-to-back games for the first time this season and improves to 4-3. The Tigers open MIAA play at home Friday against conference newcomer Nebraska-Omaha. The ladies tip at 5:30pm with the men follow around 7:30pm.

Lady Tigers End 2-Game Skid with Win Over Ottawa (11/29/08)
Fort Hays State used a 44-11 run over the first and second halves to build a 37-point lead and they go on for an easy 104-56 victory over Ottawa Saturday night at Gross Coliseum to end a two-game losing streak. Seven Tigers reached double-figures led by Kayla Klug who scored 18. Naomi Bancroft hit five 3-pointers and added 15. FHSU (3-3) shot 55.7% from the field including 9-for-23 from 3-point range. The Tigers also hit 17-of-20 free throws.

FHSU Women Fall to Kansas Wesleyan (11/24/08)

Kansas Wesleyan used a 19-2 run over the first and second half to build a ten-point lead early in the second half and holds off the Lady Tigers 74-68. Fort Hays rallied to tie the game at 64 on a Kayla Klug three-pointer with 4:20 to play but could never get the lead. Naomi Bancroft hit five three’s to lead three Lady Tigers in double-figures with 19. Erica Biel scored 18 and Kayla Klug 14. Fort Hays drops to 2-3 on the year. It's the first time they've lost to two NAIA schools in the same season since moving to NCAA II. 

Lady Tigers Fall on Last Second Shot to #25 Nebraska-Kearney (11/22/08)
Nebraska-Kearney's Jade Meads hit a guarded 17-foot jump shot off an inbounds pass as time expired lifting 25th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney to a 55-54 win over the Fort Hays State Lady Tigers Saturday night. FHSU (2-2) had taken the lead when Erica Biel hit one of two free throws. Kayla Klug missed a pair of free throws with five seconds left setting up the heroics for UNK. Morgan Clark led the Tigers with 11 points. Biel grabbed 11 rebounds. FHSU shot just 29-percent for the game. Naomi Bancroft went 3-for-11 from 3-point range to set the school record for made 3-point shots in career.

Hobson Signs Signs Four Early (11/19/08)
Fort Hays State women’s basketball coach Tony Hobson has announced the signing of four high school players during the early fall signing period. Inking letters of intent to play next year are Kara McFarland, a 5-11 forward from Ottawa who averaged 13 points and eight rebounds as a junior. Kelsie Serenson, a 5-10 forward from McPherson who averaged 12 points and eight rebounds as a junior. Traci Keyser, another 5-10 player from Cambridge, Nebraska who was named the Southwest Nebraska Player of the Year after averaging 21 points, seven rebounds and shot 44-percent from three-point range a year ago. Rounding out the list is 6-2 center Haley Lindsey from Bucklin who scored 13 a game and grabbed seven rebounds her junior year.

Lady Tigers Roll Past Bethany (11/18/08)
 The Fort Hays State women used an 11-0 run late in the first half to go up 14 and never let up as they roll past Bethany 88-53. Four Tigers reached double-figures including Erica Biel who recorded her second double-double in three games with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Naomi Bancroft knocked in four three’s and finished with 20. Ashley Cornett tied a career-high with 13 and Audra Binford added eleven. Coach Tony Hobson says it was a total team effort. The Tigers move to 2-1. They host #25 Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at 5:30pm.

FHSU Women Lose to Avila (11/16/08)
The Fort Hays State women squandered an 18-point first half lead and loses to Avila University 71-66 yesterday at the Emporia State Lady Hornet Classic. The Tigers used a 17-0 run to build the big lead but the Eagles scored the final seven to close the first half then used an early 8-0 run in the second half to get back in the game. Naomi Bancroft hit five three’s in the first half but was held to just one in the second and led the Tigers with 22 points. Ashley Cornett and Talia Miller both added a career-high 13. Both the Tiger men and women are at home tomorrow. The women host Bethany and the men Sterling beginning at 5:30pm.

Tigers Win Opener (11/15/08)
The Fort Hays State women won their first game under coach Tony Hobson, holding off Tabor College 78-63 at the Emporia State Lady Hornet Classic. FHSU (1-0) jumped out to a 16-2 lead on four Naomi Bancroft 3-pointers. The Tigers led by as many as 20 in the first half but Tabor used an 11-0 run to pull within one with 15:55 to play. The Tigers answered wtih a 20-0 run over the next 6:50. Bancroft finished with five three's and 19 points. Erica Biel recorded her first career double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds.

FHSU Women’s Basketball Drops Exhibition Game (11/3/08)
The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team opened their season yesterday with a 93-37 exhibition loss at Kansas. No one reached double-figures for Fort Hays, who shot just 25-percent from the floor. Newcomers Audra Binford and Morgan Clark joined Naomi Bancroft with eight points.

Women's Basketball Picked Last in MIAA Preseason Poll (10/28/08)
Washburn is picked to win the women’s title with Emporia State a close second. Northwest Missouri State is third followed by Central Missouri, Missouri Southern and Missouri Western. Nebraska-Omaha and Pittsburg State are tied for seventh followed by Southwest Baptist, Truman and Fort Hays State at number eleven. New head coach Tony Hobson will get a first hand look at his squad Sunday when they open their season with an exhibition game at Kansas.
